There is an old saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.Understanding this, the founders sought to avoid the perils of absolute power by dividing the powers of government between different branches, departments, and entities. Each of these would have well defined limited powers and be tasked with serving as a check and balance upon their counterparts. The Founders also established a wall of separation between church and state because they knew that a government ruling in God’s name is the most absolute form of power. Who among us can criticize or deny God’s plan and intentions.

History has demonstrated time and time again that faith based governments tend to be the most tyrannical and abusive of human rights. In America today, with the help of the Republican Party, the religious right is attempting to dismantle the wall of separation between church and state created by our Founders to protect us from tyranny.
